Hi, is there a free screen reader out there that will work with windows Me? I've googled and have not had much luck.

Thanks

I'm sure System Access To go'll work with Windows ME. We still have my Compac Windows ME laptop which I used to use with JAWS which works in a similar way to System Access to go. Type Windows R from the Desktop, then www.satogo.com. The moment you press enter, the screenreader will install on your system. You'll need to create an account with Satogo before you can use it, but don't worry. It talks to you practically as soon as the Satogo page opens up.
Jen.

Hi,
SA To go will not work with Windows Me, it isn't supported.
It only supportes Win 2000, XP, and Win Vista.

Screen reader for windows ME? why does it have to be for Windows ME? A screen reader is a screen reader. Go get one of the older versions of jaws.

that is what is being asked cody, noting more. some people didn't know jaws supported ME at one point since FS took it out a while ago. it's hard to know what's in what version now

If you want a version of Jaws that supports Me, you'll have to get something like 4 or below. I used versions 4 and 3.31 ona Windows Me machine, and they worked fine, well as good as Windows Me worked anyway, which leads me to the real question here. why are you still using Me when there are way more stable operating systems?

Hi and thanks for the replies, I wanted a free screen reader solution, as the person who would be using the screenreader is already using a JAWS demo. NVDA or SAToGo will not work, as pointed above, and I can't think of any more solutions other than upgrading to XP, which might not be a possibility.

Thanks again, Any more ideas would be apreciated.

Why wouldn't it be a possibility?

Post 11 by rat (star trek rules!) on Tuesday, 26-Aug-2008 18:28:52

money. that's usually the largest problem. or the computer isn't the person's own machine is another one

If upgrading to xp isn't an option, you could just put 2000 on there instead.
Its much more stable and you'll probably have more luck getting things to work.

Upgrading is not an option. As pointed above, this is not the person's computer.

I don't really see how thats a problem?
You've been asked by this person about different screenreaders, you've tryed to do some research and you've found that the best option is upgrade to win 2k.
Unless finance gets in the way then its as simple as that really.

I agree, but as the situation goes, updating is not a solution for the moment.

Thanks, we'll see how it works.

LOL not a possibility what a bunch of bull. It's called torrents.

If you dont' like older jaws with cracks, and nvda won't work and satogo won't work, then you're basically screwed. Buy a new machine, shit can vista, or just buy a copy of xp, the upgrade edition if you are really paranoid about it. The upgrade copy is $100. However I see why so many people crack jaws, it is too fucking expensive that is, if you buy it at bad buys which is $300 even the guy told me "happy downloading". If you dont' take our advice, we can't help you. Who in their right mind wants to run windows ME. 2k is as stable as xp.

Question: why is he even still using that box. If it isn't his, why is he worrying about it. Ask the person if it is ok if they upgrade to 2k oytr xp, gut the o/s and there you are running smooth as a bell.

Last version of JAWS that worked with Windows Me was JAWS 7.0.
Check the fS site, it'll give ya all the details.
Who wants to use Windows Me anyway? It suckckckckckckckckkcs!

How does it suck? i ran it, and it worked just fine for me.

I don’t have the answers to those questions. All I can do is suggest a screen reader that works with what operating system is currently being used. That’s all. I’m pretty sure that when an upgrade is crucial for their particular needs, it will be done.

Thanks again.
